Blank Original
The “blank original system” is the most traditional way of using OK-VISE clamping method, where, in addition to OK-VISE clamps and bolts, the pockets or grooves are machined by the client to his specific needs and requirements.
Today clients are increasingly using Fixturing Concept modules, which offers an ease of design and reusability of modules.
However, our blank original system still remains a totally valid way of manufacturing optimized fixtures.

Generic Purpose Systems
OK-VISE’s GENERIC PURPOSE workholding systems adapt easily to various workpiece sizes, and the components of these systems can be reused and reconfigured easily for a variety of applications and workpieces.
Multi-Rail System
Of our generic-purpose components the most typical is the Multi-Rail System. In addition to the commonest Multi-Rail RM size – M stands for medium – we also supply a heavy duty Multi-Rail RH.
Multi-Rail RM is the ideal system to replace old-fashioned machine vises in generic-purpose clamping, and it also performs optimally on all workholding platforms.
Combo-Rail
Our patented Combo-Rail unit is optimized for applications that require work support in floating mode, which means that once positioned, the unit clamps the workpiece in place without moving it.
This is used when the workpiece is positioned by other means and bending of the workpiece at the support point needs to be avoided.
The Combo-Rail unit also features centralizing mode and a machine vise mode in addition to the floating mode.
Grid System
One more system that is available is the Grid System. The module interface is optimized for grid platform (M12 positioning bushing and an M12 thread in a 50x50 mm matrix).
This system is optimal for clamping complex workpiece forms like plates.
When considering if you should build a dedicated fixture or a fixture using generic fixturing components read this.
Components for Dedicated Fixturing
Our Blank system is a system for building DEDICATED FIXTURING (workpiece-specific fixturing). Normally only one setup of one workpiece can be clamped with these fixtures.
OK-VISE Blank System
The OK-VISE Blank Fixturing System is designed for cases when dedicated (product-specific) fixtures are needed. This is typical in high-volume production or when special optimization of the fixture is needed.
Blank plates are used as a platform on which to build the fixture – aluminium and steel blanks are recommended. Then pockets for the modules will be machined, modules are installed and the fixture is ready. So, building fixturing is easier than ever!
In addition to OK-VISE low-profile clamps and bolts, a variety of components are now available. Various clamp modules, stopper modules, side guides and parallels (or riser blocks) are the basic modules of the system.
High-friction jaws in stopper modules and clamps ensure reliable clamping when high machining forces are used. When sensitive contact with the workpiece is a must, then smooth, diamond-surface or contour-machined jaws creating a form-closure fixture are optimal.
Blank Original
The most traditional way of using OK-VISE clamping method. In addition to OK-VISE clamps and bolts all the rest is machined. Today using Fixturing Concept modules offers easy design and reusability of modules. However, our “blank original system” is still a totally valid way of manufacturing optimized fixtures.
When considering if you should build a dedicated fixture or a fixture using generic fixturing components read this.
Clamp sizes
OK-VISE low-profile clamps come in four different sizes (A, B, D, F) for metric bolts (M5, M8, M12, M16), while the D-Series Inch Model is made for a half-inch bolt.
size | A | B | D | D / inch | F |
Bolt size (metric) | M5 | M8 | M12 | M16
Imperial bolt size | 3/16" | 5/16" | 1/2" | 5/8"
Force up to (kN) | 10 | 25 | 90 | 90 | 150 |
Force up to (lbs) | 2 200 | 5 600 | 20 000 | 20 000 | 33 000 |
AMin...AMax (m Metric bolt sizem, compared to optimum) | -2.9...+ 2.5 | -1.9...+3.0 | -3.3...+5.2 | -4.9...3.3
Bolt offset (mm) | 2 x 0.7 | 2 x 1.2 | 2 x 1.1 | 2 x 1.7 |
In B-series clamp the maximum clamping force is 25 kN which corresponds the force in a typical machine vise!
It is the most popular size today, followed by D-size which may be easier to handle manually and also the more popular in automated solutions.
Clamping forces
The manual clamping is normally applied using an allen key with torque guage, however a power tool can also be utilised for convenience.
When actuated with a bolt the models with ground surfaces have a high accuracy response between torque and the clamp force
The precision-ground surfaces of OK-VISE Low-profile clamps quarantee consistantly accutate clamping force.
We have attached the torque-force graph to enable the most suitable clamping force & torque selection.
x = torque ( Nm), y = force ( kN )
Other clamp properties
In addition to above mentioned clamp sizes and various jaw types, OK-VISE clamp superior designs differ from its competition in a number of important ways
Pull-down clamps
Where standard model single-wedge clamps always keep workpieces steadily in place, not allowing
upward or downward movement, pull-down clamps also generate pull-down action and press workpieces towards the fixture base.
Stainless steel model
Originally designed for EDM applications, stainless steel clamp is used today in many harsh environments like welding appliations
Economy models (-O)
Some of our customers prefer our economy-series, which works sufficiently well in applications where absolute repeatability, high clamp accuracy and extremely high pressing forces are not necessary.
In economy models, only the bottom of the jaw is ground.
Our smallest series is only available as the economy model (AK2-VT-SO).
D-series inch models (-VTI, -WTI)
You can fasten the clamps with bolts of both metric and imperial dimensions for A-, B- and F-size clamps.
For D-size clamps, there are separate models to be used with an imperial half-inch bolt.
The center holes of inch-series wedges are wider in order to fit the half-inch socket head screw.

Multi-Rail RM System modules
Just like in all systems of OK-VISE Fixturing Concept, Multi-Rail RM is a modular system, including following functions:
Clamp modules, Stop modules, Riser blocks, Side guides
All these are installed on base rail units.
In addition to this, we offer fine tuning machining options and for installation on various platforms installation and adapter sets are available.
There are several machining options, for example if base rail needs to positioned accurately on T-slots slot keys.
Please study also HOW TO USE videos for more detailed use instructions
Threaded inserts
The following threaded inserts are used when special durability in the thread is essential.
Especially with aluminum platforms threaded inserts are recommended.
Some inserts are straight – one thread inside and one outside – whereas some have a flange outside to give extra support. Please notice that T-nuts can also be used for the same purpose in some installations.
In the front straight models INM-12-8, INM-18-12, INM-18-12H, INM-22-16
Heights of these four types are 12.5, 10, 16 and 20 mm
In addiition to these there is INM-22-16S which is 14 mm in height.

DIGIFORCE SCADA DFC-1
This optional system element collects information from several DIGIFORCE displays so that historical data can be viewed.
Wireless Digiforce force Verification System
Clamping force verification can now be done wirelessly. This digital concept is designed to be an integral part of any system where verifying clamping force is essential.
In the Multi-Rail RM system we have stopper modules which have built-in force sensors.
The sensor is connected to the measuring unit, which sends the measuring data by radio to the display. The display units can easily be set up with the min and max forces to trigger an alarm.
The European 868 MHz radio-technology that we use is long range technology, thus enabling transmission distances of up to 50 meters. This guarantees error-free transmission even in most harsh machining environments.
Basic components of the system are
- A stopper module with DIGIFORCE sensor option
- Wireless DIGIFORCE measuring unit
- Wireless DIGIFORCE display
- SCADA System ( optional, to collect history data )

RPS System L
Locking of the sub-plates in this system is done by using the OK-LOCK element. In addition to OK-VISE clamping systems, also old-school traditional vises and other fixturing elements can be used.
One possibility is to bolt OK-LOCK spigots directly to the workpiece, enabling easy access from all directions.
RPS-L3X2
The RPS-L3X2 model is equipped with 3 pieces of OK-LOCK modules on both sides of the block. Pneumatic release by plug is a typical practice, robot-operated release is also possible.

Applications
As in every OK-VISE Fixturing Concept system, the basic modules in the Blank System are clamp, stopper, side guide and riser block modules.
To resist the clamping and machining forces, a pocket should be machined to the blank plate. Pictures of the pockets are available in the installation instruction.

Code format is GS-jAn, where j corresponds to a jaw type and n is a base type.
- xA1 modules are the shortest, with a jaw movement of max. 60 mm
- xA2 possess a jaw movement of max. 110 mm
- xA3 possess a jaw movement of max. 60 mm
While xA1 and xA2 modules can be installed in 4 directions on a standard 50x50 M12 platform (0,90,180 or 270 degrees) xA3 modules can be installed in more positions such as 27,45 and 63 degrees in addition to previously mentioned.
Grid System riser blocks (GP-)
Riser block tabs that posses a M12 thread longer than 18 mm:s, can be also used directly on standard M12 grid platforms.
Riser blocks used in the Grid System can be built from different standard components. Riser blocks can be placed easily in almost any position on the grid platform. Height can be adjusted by combining suitable riser modules, adjusting the height with the M12 thread and finally machining if needed.
Please specify your needs and we will recommend you a suitable set!
Grid System side guides
Some side guides for the Grid System can be built using the same components used for the riser blocks.
Additionally, there are modules to adapt spring guides (in the photo) to the Grid System side guide.
Grid System modules
As in every OK-VISE Fixturing Concept system, the basic modules in the Grid System are clamp, stopper, side guide and riser block modules. There are fixed and adjustable stoppers in the system, additionally single directional clamp modules share the same base module than adjustable stoppers.
Compared to fixed modules in the Grid system, with adjustable modules the place of the jaw can be moved in 2.5 mm steps.
If the difference in workpiece sizes is larger than the total movement of the jaw, then the module will be moved 50 mm to the next positioning hole location on the grid platform
Machining options
The Multi-Rail dimensions can be also modified. OK.VISE has predefined set of ready machining options, which are available on request. Usually, ordering of the special machining option slightly increases delivery time.
M-N1
In the picture on the right M-N1 stands for machining of two sides with max 4x9 mm notch.
Then, both stopper widht and the widht of the upper part of the rail base will be 36 mm.

Clamps with tungsten carbide coating
This type of clamps posses two jaws with hard tungsten carbide coating : AK2-VT-DO, BK-VT-D, DK2-VT-D, DK2-VTI-D and FK2-VT-D.
When no clamping marks are allowed in the workpiece but still high friction is needed, these clamps are an excellent choise.
Or when thin-walled workpieces are being machined, these jaws create required holding force with less clampforce, preventing distorsions of the workpiece while clamping.

If keys are to be used in Mult-Rail base rails, then a machining option M-T1 is available, which is 2 + 2 pockets like shown in the photo.
Base rail RM common properties
Compared to similar systems on the market, the OK-VISE Multi-Rail base is the most stable due to its steep serration profile. It has been designed for D- and B-series clamp modules and can withstand up to 4 tonnes clamping force. The pitch of the serration is 2,5 mm, and the size of the RM profile is 44 x 50 mm.
The accuracy of the serration dimensions , like distance from every serration to the positioning hole is ± 0.01 mm ( RM-200....RM-700 base rails ). This makes Multi-Rail RM system the most accurarate rail system on the market.

RMS-G, RMS-Gx
Code | Dim. | STEP |
RMS-G | ||
RMS-GS |
RMS-G is a grip model with two HSS pins that penetrate into the workpiece, leaving tiny marks on it. The friction is much higher than that of using the standard serrated jaw, against soft steel the friction co-efficient factor is up to 0,8.
Model RMS-GS has one grip jaw and one smooth jaw.
Multi-Rail RM stopper modules (RMS-)
The same jaw types used in clamps are available in the stopper modules:
- Serrated (R)
- Smooth (S)
- Diamond-coated (D)
- Additional piece models (T)
- Grip models (G)
- Self-aligning (B)
- Machinable (M)
- Equipped with vertical V-slot (V)
- Equipped with horizontal V-slot (H) etc.
Recommended installation torque 50..100 Nm
Please also notice, that several types of threads and notches can be machined to stoppers to help integration with external components (see more: machining options).
Additionally, different stopper sizes are manufactured by OK-VISE.

Multi-Rail RM side guides (RMG-)
Side guides are designed to assist in positioning the workpiece on the Multi-Rail. The workpiece is pressed sideways (as regards the clamping force) against the guide, either manually or using a spring guide.
Multi-Rail RM clamp modules (RMC-)
All the jaw types, such as serrated (R), smooth (S), diamond-coated (D), additional piece models (T), grip models (G), self-aligning (B), machinable (M), etc., are suitable for the Multi-Rail RM system.
D-size (12 mm or 1/2" bolt) and B-size (M8 or 5/16" bolt) clamps are most commonly used in the Multi-Rail RM system.
There are various clamp modules - RMC-DR, RMC-DS, RMC-DT, RMC-BS.
In the RMC-ab code format a=size and b=jaw type.
RMS-V, RMS-Vx
Code | Dim. | STEP |
RMS-V | ||
RMS-VS |
This model has a vertical V-shape jaw to hold round-shaped workpieces of various sizes.
The optimal workpiece sizes are given in the Dimension drawings (see Dim. in the table above). Please note that when machining a workpiece with a diameter larger than maximum given in the Dimensions drawings, there is a line contact between the jaw and the workpiece, and the jaw is likely to leave marks on the workpiece surface.
RMS-V has two such jaws, RMS-VS has one smooth jaw (photo).
RMS-T, RMS-Tx
Code | Dim. | STEP |
RMS-T | ||
RMS-TS |
In this stopper module the same additional pieces can be used as in D-series low-profile clamps. In this stopper module the same additional pieces can be used as in D-series low-profile clamps.
RMS-T has two additional pieces jaws.
For example RMS-TS is a stop module which has one smooth jaw and one additional piece jaw.
Components
Below there are the most typical components commonly used with the OK-VISE products.
RMS-M, RMS-MS, RMS-Mx
Code | Dim. | STEP |
RMS-M | ||
RMS-MS |
These are machinable stopper models which are especially suitable for machining of complex workpieces, or when extreme accuracy is needed and product-specific jaws are used for machining.
RMS-M has two extended jaws that are machinable. Furthermore, all combinations can be machined because these models are made of the relatively soft material (HRC 30, not hardened or nitrided). In the RMS-MS model, one jaw is of the "normal" length, and normally it is smooth. For machining purposes this model is slightly bigger in size.
Also many other variants of combinations can be made, so "x" can be =R (serrated), V (vertical slot) etc.
